You’ll need an iPad for work. Cam uses the 12.9" iPad Pro, but you don’t have to get that exact model. Just make sure the iPad you choose meets the following requirements:
1. Should be compatible with any generation of Apple Pencil.
2. Needs to have at least 128 GB of storage.
(64 GB will get you started, but you may need to upgrade down the road.)
3. Must be cellular-enabled so you can add it to your wireless plan and avoid relying on a hotspot.
If you already have a Wi-Fi-only iPad, that’s okay to start — just be aware that constant hotspot use can wear down your phone. This is why we recommend cellular iPads.
4. The newer, the better.
If you choose an iPad that’s more than 6 years old, Apple may stop supporting software updates, which can cause issues with running essential apps. We recommend sticking with an iPad that is no more than 5–6 years old.
Cam uses the Supcase Unicorn Beetle for his iPad and loves it for both its functionality and rugged protection.
It securely holds your Apple Pencil on the side and allows you to prop the iPad up in presenter mode — perfect for showcasing visuals or hands-free work in the field.
You can choose any screen protector you prefer, but Cam recommends removing the built-in screen protector from the case and using this “paperlike” option instead.
It makes writing on the iPad feel more like pen on paper, reduces glare in sunlight, and is much gentler on your Apple Pencil tips — helping them last up to 70% longer.
